The President of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), Decio De Maria, said he expected FIFA Congress, to be held in Mexico in the next days, to be an opportunity to show the good image of the country, local media reported on Wednesday.
According to Mexican sports daily La Aficion, De Maria said FIFA Congress will be held on May 12 and 13 in Mexico City but Mexico will not present its candidacy for World Cup 2026
"Most of all we are ready to receive FIFA, we are not thinking of presenting any kind of offers," said De Maria
Despite of this, FMF president said that "at the appropriate time, we will do it. When FIFA will announce this, we will see but not now, when we are going to host a Congress to elect the new delegates."
A good image of the country can help for a future candidacy, said De Maria, especially because FIFA knows about Mexico's capacity to organize large sports events.
"Mexico has organized two World Cups, one U-17 World Cup, one Confederations Cup. We know how to organize these events and both FIFA and the world are aware of that. But in this occasion we are going to host the FIFA delegates and show them a good image," he said.
