Max Scherzer held Minnesota to four hits over seven innings Wednesday in pacing the Detroit Tigers to a 5-1 win over the Twins. Scherzer (12-6) piled up five strikeouts over the first two innings and ended with 10. He has stuck out at least eight batters in six consecutive starts. Scherzer allowed a first-inning single and two base hits in the third before retiring 14 of the next 15. He walked two -- those coming to open the second -- but then struck out the next three batters. Miguel Cabrera and Delmon Young each drove in two runs for the Tigers. Cabrera had RBI singles in the first and fifth innings while Young hit a two-run home run in the fourth. All those runs were charged to Cole De Vries (2-4), who allowed eight hits and walked two in four innings. He struck out three. Omar Infante singled in Jhonny Peralta in the eighth for the other Detroit run. The Twins broke the shutout when Ben Revere tripled in the bottom of the inning and scored on Joe Mauer's single.
