Sydney - Arab Today

Opener Chris Rogers scored his second century of the series as Australia tightened their grip on the final Ashes Test and closed in on a 5-0 series whitewash over England in Sydney on Sunday. The 36-year-old left-hander cut part-time offspinner Kevin Pietersen to the boundary rope for his third Test century -- all of them against England. Australia went to lunch at 248 for seven -- an overall lead of 419 with eight sessions left to play. Rogers, who scored 116 in the second innings of the fourth Test in Melbourne, was unbeaten on 114 off 163 balls at the interval with 14 fours while Ryan Harris was on one. Rogers shared in a fifth-wicket partnership of 109 with George Bailey, who was dismissed shortly after first-hour drinks when he top-edged Stuart Broad to Scott Borthwick at deep square leg for 46. Brad Haddin became the highest-scoring Australian wicketkeeper in a Test series with his breezy 28 off 40 balls. Haddin, the nemesis of the English bowlers in this series with his lower middle-order batting, finished the series with 493 runs at 61.62 to better the previous best held by Adam Gilchrist against South Africa in 2001-02. Haddin was bowled as he swung at young leg-spinner Borthwick and Mitchell Johnson lasted three balls before he was bowled by Ben Stokes for 4. Source: AFP
