Christian Taylor of the United States, 21, won his first world title in the men's triple jump with a world-leading leap of 17.96 meters on Sunday night at the Daegu world championships. Taylor achieved 17.96 meters in his fourth attempt, lifting his personal best by an amazing distance of 0.6 meters. The winning mark also ranked fifth on the world's all-time best list. Phillips Idowu of Britain took silver with a fourth-attempt leap of 17.77 meters. The bronze went to Will Claye, also from the U.S., who achieved 17.50m in his third effort. The mark is also his personal best.
