Top-seeded Julia Goerges was ousted with a three-set defeat Tuesday in the first round of the rainy Nurnberger Gastein Ladies tennis tournament in Austria. Rain affected play for the second day of the tournament. Only one main-draw match even started Monday, and Tuesday four of the scheduled 12 matches were postponed because of weather. Qualify Richel Hogenkamp, No. 211 in the world, defeated Goerges 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Hogenkamp had 10 double faults and dropped serve three times but was able to turn the match with three second-set breaks of her own. She added one more in the third set while fighting off both break points Goerges managed to eliminate the top seed. Second-seeded Yanina Wickmayer topped Mariana Duque-Marino 6-3, 6-4, winning 53 percent of the points off Duque-Marino's serve. Wickmayer was particularly effective on Duque-Marino's second serve, taking 20-of-33 points in those situations. No. 4-seeded Carla Suarez-Navarro stopped Marta Domachowska 6-4, 7-5 and seventh-seeded Alize Cornet got by Edina Gallovits-Hall 7-5, 7-5. Also advancing Tuesday were Estrella Cabeza Candela, Sacha Jones, Sarah Gronert and Mandy Minella.
