Vice President Jusuf Kalla has expressed hope that Indonesian athletes will increase training in order to create better achievements in the Asian Games 2018 than in the SEA Games 2017.
"Frankly speaking, we are disappointed at it (our achievement in the SEA Games) because it fell short of the target. Therefore, we still have one year to increase training for the Asian Games," he said here on Tuesday.
Indonesia will host the Asian Games from Aug 18 to Sept 2, 2018. The Asian Games will feature 41 sports events, consisting of 33 Olympic sports events and eight non-Olympic sports events.
Until the 11th day of the SEA Games 2017 in Malaysia on Tuesday, Indonesia remained in the fifth place in the provisional medal tally, with 36 gold medals, 62 silver medals, and 77 bronze medals.
Host Malaysia holds the lead in the medal standings as of Tuesday with 124 gold medals, 81 silver medals, and 76 bronze medals.
Trailing behind in second place is Thailand, with 62 gold medals, 77 silver medals, and 82 bronze medals.
Vietnam comes in second with 57 gold medals, 46 silver medals, and 53 bronze medals, followed by Singapore in the fourth place, with 51 gold medals, 47 silver medals, and 69 bronze medals.
Indonesia has set itself the target of taking home 55 gold medals from the SEA Games 2017.
