Virginia Water - UPI

Nick Watney and Peter Hanson collected major-tour weekend victories that boosted them in the Top 20 of the world men's golf rankings. Watney won the CIMB Classic in Malaysia -- technically an "unofficial" PGA Tour event -- with a stunning 10-under-par 61 Sunday and went from 22nd to 16th in the rankings as updated Monday. Hanson played world No. 1 Rory McIlroy even in the final round and won the BMW Masters in Shanghai by one stroke, putting him at 17th this week. He was ranked 25th a week ago. McIlroy's runner-up finish in Shanghai didn't hurt his standing atop the rankings, a spot he's held for the last 11 weeks and 18 weeks overall. His ranking points average is 12.928. Tiger Woods was fourth in Malaysia and remains ranked No. 2 with an average of 9.359. Luke Donald, third at the BMW Masters, is third at 8.851. Lee Westwood (6.722) is still ranked fourth followed by Justin Rose (6.285) and Adam Scott (5.965). Webb Simpson, with an average of 5.903, moved to seventh, pushing Bubba Watson (5.837) to eighth. Brent Snedeker (5.696) edged past Jason Dufner (5.692) for ninth in the rankings, leaving Dufner No. 10. Copyright 2012 United Press International, Inc. (UPI).
