Zagora grabbed the lead late in Friday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf and went on to win by 3/4 length. Zagora, a French-bred filly based in New York, got rolling from the middle of the field turning for home in the 1 1/4-miles race. Marketing Mix briefly inherited the lead from the tiring pacesetter but could not withstand the late run of the winner and finished second. The favorite, British-based The Fugue, was trapped behind rivals from the turn through the stretch and finished third. Ridasiyna put in a furious run on the far outside to finish fourth. Zagora, a 5-year-old Green Tune mare, finished in 1:59.70 over firm turf with Javier Castellano up. She came into the Breeders' Cup off a narrow loss to Nahrain in the Grade I Flower Bowl Invitational at Belmont Park. That rival never figured in Saturday's running. Zagora now has 10 wins from 21 lifetime starts. She began her career in France with limited success. Since arriving in the United States, she has failed to finish in the top three only twice in 13 starts, all of them graded stakes. Owner Martin Schwartz, asked if he will reconsider selling the winner for breeding, said: "I love racing. I'll have to put my head on my pillow and think about that."
