Oklahoma - Xinhua

More than ten people were injured Saturday night when thousands of football fans surged onto the field to celebrate a college football team's victory in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, officials said Sunday.Ten people were treated by medial personnel and two were airlifted to a hospital after fans celebrated Oklahoma State University's 44-10 victory over rich-rival University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State officials said, according to The New York Times. The win gave Oklahoma State, which went into the game ranked third nationally, an outside chance of a berth in the college football's Bowl Championship Series.Thousands of people stormed onto the field with several seconds left in the game on Saturday night in Stillwater, Oklahoma, tearing down goalposts in a chaotic celebration. It took the police about 45 minutes to clear the field, causing some fans to be trampled in the crush to get to the exits of the stadium, which can hold 60,000, according to U.S. media reports. Some of the injured were treated at Stillwater Medical Center for injuries ranging from fractured ankles to strained backs.Oklahoma State University President Burns Hargis said in a statement that "we regret those injuries to a few fans on the field".It's the second tragedy that hit Oklahoma State University in less than a month. Oklahoma State women's basketball coach Kurt Budke and his assistant were killed Nov. 17 in a plane crash.
