New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter underwent successful ankle surgery Saturday, the team said. The likely future Hall of Famer will need four to five months to recover after the procedure performed by Dr. Robert Anderson of Charlotte, N.C. Jeter sustained the injury Oct. 13 while fielding a ground ball in the 12th inning of New York's loss to Detroit in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series. The Yankees were swept in the series four-games-to-none. Jeter batted .333 with two RBI in the playoffs before his injury, following a regular season in which he batted .316 with 15 home runs and 58 RBI.
