Russian forward Evgeni Malkin is out indefinitely with a concussion after slamming his head into the boards, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Monday. The Penguins placed the two-time Olympian on the injured list after he was hurt in a 3-1 win over Florida on Friday. Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma said the reigning NHL MVP Malkin suffered some short-term memory loss after the incident. Malkin was driving to the Florida net when he was taken out by defenceman Erik Gudbranson, of Canada, on a clean hit. Malkin slid backwards and the back of his helmet hit the boards. In 18 games this season, Malkin has four goals and 17 assists. Malkin competed in the last two Winter Games in Vancouver (2010) and Turin (2006) and is expected to lead the favoured Russian team in next year's Olympic hockey tournament in Sochi, Russia.
