Paris - AFP

Marseille's new coach Elie Baup has been charged with making fraudulent claims for unemployment benefits after he was sacked by Nantes in 2009, sources close to the case told AFP on Monday. A judge in Toulouse has charged Baup, 57, with receiving unemployment benefit at the same time as he was being paid for work as a pundit at French TV channel Canal+, sources said. Judge Didier Suc in the south-western city of Toulouse made the ruling just before Baup was named as the replacement for Didier Deschamps as coach of Ligue 1 side Marseille on July 4, one source said. Baup could not immediately be reached for comment. Toulouse prosecutor Michel Valet said he could not comment on any matter currently under investigation. Baup managed Bordeaux between 1998 and 2003, guiding them to the league title in 1999. He then had spells with Toulouse and Nantes before being sacked from the latter in 2009.
