Snowmobile rider Caleb Moore died Thursday, a week after he crashed during the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado, X Games officials confirmed. "We are deeply saddened by Caleb Moore's passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents, Wade and Michelle, his brother, Colten, and the entire Moore family," officials from the event broadcast by ESPN said in a statement that was posted on the X Games Facebook page. "He will be remembered for his natural passion for life and his deep love for his family and friends, and he will always be an inspiration to everyone he touched in the action sports community." The death of the 25-year-old Moore is the first fatality in the 18-year history of the event. "For 18 years, we have worked closely on safety issues with athletes, course designers and other experts," the X Games statement said. "Still, when the world's best compete at the highest level in any sport, risks remain." Moore was injured on January 24 when attempting a back flip in the snowmobile freestyle competition, with the machine slamming into him. He was eventually able to walk away from the crash. The Denver Post reported that Moore was initially diagnosed with a concussion, but doctors later found internal bleeding around his heart. The Post carried a statement from Moore family spokeswoman Chelsea Lawson on Thursday, expressing their gratitude for the support of fans and the doctors who treated Moore. From: AFP
