A political adviser to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Nimer Hammad, considered the participation of Hamas in the NAM summit in Tehran as a "new and dangerous attempt to jump over the Palestinian legitimacy.” Hammad said in an interview with Arabstoday that what was done by the leadership of Hamas in the Gaza Strip was an attempt to bypass what had been achieved over the years of the Palestinian struggle. Hammad said that anyone who tries to deepen the Palestinian division is not only harming the Palestinian cause, but the national interests of the Arabs in general. The presidential adviser refused to use the term "government in Gaza Strip", and said it was a de facto of authority and a rebellious entity over legitimacy. Hammad wished the leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, and all leaders of the movement in Gaza to understand the seriousness of their next steps in order to support the Palestinian cause. "Washington asked President Abbas not to go to Tehran, but he insisted on going," he said. He added: “He cannot miss an international forum where the Palestinian cause is being discussed. I will go to Tehran, and nothing will stop me.” Hammad called for a trial on Israeli leaders who incited against authorities, citing recent statements by Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman who said that he "must get rid of President Abbas for being a terrorist." The presidential advisor continued : "There are groups in every society, there is scum in every society, and Lieberman is silly. The foreign ministers considered sitting with him to be a punishment. It is quite clear that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who is in need for Lieberman in the coalition government , is devoted to the culture of bullying and ignoring the world culture. " Hammad added : "Someone like Lieberman speaks with arrogance and considers himself as strong as Hercules and no one opposes him . But the question is why doesn’t Washington and the European countries take any action against Lieberman ? We must have confidence that the world is getting impatient with such arrogance and increasing its sympathy with the Palestinian people." He noted: "President Abbas says that the solution is two states living in peace, and the refugee issue to be solved through dialogue and settlement can be considered through a land swap with certain proportions, thus when President Abbas has an all purpose solution to the world, everyone agrees with him, except the Israeli side who never give him an answer. Israel does not know what it wants, even when it was asked for written proposals; it did not submit any word or idea.” The presidential adviser added : "The largest tragedy in the history of the Palestinian people is the fleeing in 1948 and the displacement in 1967. If half of the refugees did not leave their own land, the conflict would have been different. You know the Palestinians from their experience, whatever the difficulties are, they remain on their land. If the settlement continues to besiege our villages, this would result in the impossibility of a two-state solution. " Hamad stressed that the occupation will not last forever, and the fate of Lieberman and Netanyahu will be like the fate of any racist or fascist in history.
