Leading member of Algerian Popular Movement Abdel Hakeem Batash said that the electoral list, led by Algerian Former Minister Emara Bin Younis, will not turn to the halls for delivering political speeches, but to the streets to convince the people to participate in the coming parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in May.
He added, during an interview with “Arabs Today”, that the Popular Movement is one of the major parties that enjoy popularity in the Algerian street in the different provinces, saying that they give priority to push the citizens for voting during the coming elections and to eliminate the phenomenon of electoral abstention.
He added that the movement’s electoral program focuses on the economic and social issues, stressing that they chose their candidates upon the standards of efficiency and dedication to political work. He added that they did not care about the age of candidates during preparing their electoral lists.
The Algerian politician stressed that the Popular Movement, loyal to the ruling authority of the country, has not witnessed any protests among its members over the formation of its electoral list, denying what was published over conflicts between the leaders of the party.
He refuted what was published over his resignation from the party, saying that he has not resigned from his party. He expressed his support for the candidates chosen by the party’s leadership for the coming parliamentary elections.
He added that if the coming elections witnessed weak turnout among the Algerian citizens, it would be the responsibility of the political parties not the Algerian government. He added that if the political parties did not present electoral programs meeting the aspiration of Algerian citizens, the people would boycott the elections.
He called the citizens for participating intensively in the coming elections, saying that strong turnout would give high credibility for the coming parliament and its government.
