Restarting negotiations with Israel could pave the way for restoring Palestinian rights, Fatah political party official, Hossam Khadar has said. However Khadar refuses to compromise on the issue of the illegal settlements built by Israel, saying it would be political suicide to do so. He warned of the seriousness of the current position of Palestine and blamed the US’s biased interests in the matter. The Fatah official accused Israel of forcing Palestine into a bloody confrontation, criticising their approach to what he described as an attempt to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state. Khadar also expressed his pessimism over the future of the internal conflict, condemning the divided Palestinian political blocs for failing to achieve reconciliation. He asserted that the current division severely harms the Palestinian agenda. He added that the formation of the new government came as a result of the pressures exerted by a number of Fatah’s leaders. Khadar stressed that the new government would not offer anything new to the Palestinian people. The Fatah official added that the former government of Salam Fayyad faced pressures to step down due to the anger of the members of Fatah over its performance. He called on the Palestinian government to draft a national plan to stabilise the economy and meet the needs of the citizens during the coming period.
