Tunis – Azhaar al-Jarbouy

The resigned member of the Congress for the Republic Party (CPR) Mr Taher Hmila explained to Arabstoday: “I will introduce a petition to the court in order to force President Moncef Marzouki to undergo a mental evaluation.” This refers to Hmila not being invited to join the conference as a member. The Tunisian President sparked controversy and widespread criticism in his speech at the opening evening for the second National Congress for his party, he accused the “Ennahda” movement of trying to control the aspects of the state, which angered the ruling Troika Ministers in Tunisia and they walked out of the conference hall. Taher Hmila said: “All movements of President Marzouki, even his way of sitting and standing, show that he is mentally unstable. I do not pretend to have knowledge, I am talking as a specialist in Educational Psychology and Pedagogy." The resigned party member called for “ imposing him to a mental examination to rate his case." He cited the President's 'weird behaviour' after ruling and his contrasting and controversial speeches saying: “Marzouki was not that way before, but it seems that the chair revealed the hidden." Regarding his exclusion him from the party, Taher Hmila said: "They are supposed to invite and listen to me as a leading member in the Party and not as I heard from some people that it was an honour to retire me, I am not a government employee to be retired." Hmila clarified: “I did not receive an official invitation, but only an SMS on my cell phone so I attended and held a press conference and declared my resignation.” Hmila said: “I am getting ready to prepare a new political party which will be launched at the end of September and it will be expressive of the Tunisia Revolution and will try to achieve its aims, which most political parties in Tunisia forgot." "Our party will feature five Salfis, and mix Marxism, nationalism and Francophone Salafism” The ex-CPR member claimed political parties did not participate in the revolution and they act as if it the revolution is booty that all are working to take a big piece from it. It is this supposed opportunism which Hmila says explain the failure of the government." The former leader described to the “el-Motamar” Party (Conference Party) that the recent parties are “zombies”, he accuses them of denying the people’s demands. He added that the party will form many divisions in the future, claiming there is currently: “Two parties inside one party, one of them is supported in France and called the “atuge” party and the other is called “el-Matbakh” (the kitchen) party.
