Budapest - Arabstoday

FIFA President Joseph S.Blatter has offered his congratulations to Jeffrey Webb on his election to the position of CONCACAF President. The 47-year-old banker and president of the Cayman Islands Football Association was chosen by acclamation as the only candidate on the ballot at his confederation’s annual conference, which took place yesterday in Budapest ahead of the FIFA Congress, which begins today and concludes tomorrow. Blatter said: "I congratulate Jeffrey Webb on his election as new the President of CONCACAF, which also makes him an official member of the FIFA Executive Committee and a FIFA Vice-President. I'm very glad the Cayman Islands FA President is now heading this very important football region. This is one step further in the reconciliation of the football family in this area." Webb will complete the four-year term of Jack Warner, who was elected for a sixth time to the post in May 2010 but resigned a month later after 20 years in office. Reflecting on a difficult period for football in CONCACAF, the new man admitted: "Over the last year, our mission and our vision have been blurred, from lawyers, to audit reports to compensation. We have deviated from our mission.” However, he then struck a positive note, offering a vision for the future: "I am here; we are here, because of our love for football. The passion for the game drives and motivates our every action. Our core focus must be football: its development, its growth and its ability to transform nations. We must rest and restructure our confederation." Webb, who has been president of the Cayman Islands federation for 21 years and was nominated by 29 of the 40 member associations, and also serves as Deputy Chairman of the FIFA Internal Audit Committee and is a member of the FIFA Transparency and Compliance Committee. He also is the chairman of the CONCACAF Youth Committee and was chairman of the Caribbean Football Union's Normalization Committee.
