Roberto Castro was clinging to a one-shot lead when darkness halted play in the third round of the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi on Sunday, with the rain-hit tournament headed for a Monday finish.
America's Castro was one of the few players to complete two rounds on Friday, and still topped the leaderboard with a four-shot lead over American Bryce Molder and Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas when the second round was finally completed on Sunday.
Back-to-back bogeys at the third and fourth holes of the Country Club of Jackson course saw his lead dwindle to one stroke over DJ Trahan and Michael Thompson.
Castro was 13-under through six holes of the third round while Trahan's two birdies in his first nine holes of the third round had him at 12-under. Thompson was 12-under through seven holes.
Vegas and Molder remained at 11-under, among a group of seven players sharing fourth place when darkness halted play.
The schedule was thrown into chaos when the course received almost five inches of rain between Friday and Saturday.
Organizers are still hoping to complete 72 holes, with all 74 players scheduled to resume the third round Monday morning and the fourth round to follow with no re-pairing.
Castro will be trying to hang on for a first PGA Tour victory. If he does, he'll become the fifth-straight first-time winner of the season.
That list so far includes Russell Knox, who won the World Golf Championships HSBC Champions in Shanghai earlier Sunday.
