Albert Costa on Thursday quit his post as Spain's Davis Cup team captain to take up a new position as head of the country's selection committee, the Spanish tennis federation announced. Costa recently steered Spain to their fifth Davis Cup triumph but will end his three-year tenure to head a new committee which will decide who represents Spain in future Davis Cup, Fed Cup and Olympic (2012) tournaments. "After three fantastic years in charge of the Davis Cup team I take up this new challenge and responsibility with enthusiasm," said Costa, one of the few professionals to win the Davis Cup both as a player and as a captain. Spain's future Davis Cup team captain now faces a challenge of his own as Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer, who were pivotal in their triumph over Argentina last month, have since announced they will not take part in the 2012 tournament.
