Newly acquired Tim Tebow admits he was a fan of HBO's Hard Knocks, which starred Rex Ryan's Jets two years ago. But is the team in for some even harder knocks given its suddenly crowded quarterback room? "What are they doing? First of all, you go flirting with Peyton Manning -- now that's like flirting with a pretty girl, the wife might not get mad with that. But if you've got an ugly one coming around, it's gonna be trouble," NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp said Wednesday night on NFL Total Access. "Mark Sanchez's confidence right now, after getting a new deal, looking up (and) going, 'I gotta share time with Tebow? And now you're fitting to give him a (Wildcat) package?' This is not something that you do to your franchise quarterback or a quarterback that you trade up and say has 'it' in the draft, and that's what the Jets did." The Jets thought they'd acquired Tebow early Wednesday, but it took about 12 hours until they and the Broncos actually finalized their agreement. It remains to be seen if it will prove to be time well spent or a colossal waste that will seep into future seasons. GM Mike Tannenbaum said late last night that Sanchez, who was drafted fifth overall in 2009 and helped lead the Jets to AFC Championship Games his first two years, remains clearly defined as New York's starter. "We're gonna do a lot of great things with (Sanchez)," he said. "Every quarterback in the NFL has a backup." However Tebow will be charged with triggering the Wildcat package under new OC Tony Sparano. "We have a vision for the player, we have a role for the player," said Tannenbaum. Tebow sounded content with his job for now but will doubtless scratch and claw for whatever playing time he can secure. "I'm very excited about my opportunity," he said. "And it is very clear they want me to come in and compete, and get better, and get better as a quarterback, and help the team any way possible. And whatever that role is, whatever that fashion is, I will do my best." One Jet already seems to be questioning the move. CB Antonio Cromartie tweeted: Y bring Tebow in when we need to bring in more Weapons for @Mark_Sanchez let's build the team around him. We already signed to 3 year ext. Jets Hall of Famer Joe Namath also weighed in, taking his latest swipe at the team that's never returned to the Super Bowl since he left. "I'm just sorry that I can't agree with this situation. I think it's just a publicity stunt. I can't go with it. I think it's wrong," Namath said on 1050 ESPN Radio. "I don't think they know what they're doing over there." Not surprisingly, Tebow is saying all the right things, detailing his excitement of playing for Ryan and with Sanchez, whom he says has been a friend for years. "I'm thankful (the Jets) believed in me and stuck with me through this whole crazy process today," Tebow said. But the old adage says if you have two quarterbacks, you don't really have one. "It can work, but I don't foresee it working," said Sapp.
