The Brazilian Tourism Board (Embratur) has announced the results of a survey carried out with international visitors who travelled to Brazil for the recent Rio+20 Summit. “Perception of foreigners in Brazil during Rio+20 largely reveals a ground swell of positivity around the country’s preparations to host the upcoming major sports events,” explained Flávio Dino, president of Embratur. More than two thirds of respondents (68 per cent) said the experience matched or exceeded expectations. Some 59 per cent found their perception of Brazil improved after the visit, and when asked about their interest in returning, an impressive 97 per cent said they intended to. Dino said: “The survey results show that Brazil’s natural beauty, personality and hospitality are the most striking aspects of visitors’ experiences. “On services and tourism infrastructure, 81 per cent of the foreign visitors surveyed said they believe the country is or will be prepared to host the upcoming major events.” Security in the country was also well rated, with 72 per cent rating it as ‘good’ or ‘very good’. According to Embratur, the research found that the preparation for the future events is on the right track. “Brazil has a positive agenda ahead, including the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, and the image of the country that will remain after these events will be one of our main legacies to the world,” concluded Dino.
