French horse Dunaden, ridden by Christophe Lemaire, won the Melbourne Cup over 3,200 metres (two miles) at Flemington in a thrilling photo-finish on Tuesday. The win gave France its second successive winner after Americain's victory last year. English mount Red Cadeaux came second ahead of Germany's Lucas Cranach in third to complete an international sweep of the placings in one of the closest finishes in the race's 151-year history. "It was a great moment for me," said the emotional Lemaire, who was close to tears after the nail-biting finish. "I was a bit anxious. I knew it was very close." Last year's winner Americain started as favourite and finished fourth.
