Kaiserslautern president Stefan Kuntz has told coach Marco Kurz his job is safe, despite seeing his team slip to the foot of the Bundesliga yesterday. A goalless draw against Wolfsburg was not enough to prevent the Red Devils going bottom, but it was sufficient to keep Kurz in a job, at least for another week. Before the game Kuntz had refused to give Kurz his backing, telling Sky he would "wait and see how the game goes". But he clearly saw enough over the 90 minutes to convince him that Kurz, who extended his contract until 2013 last October, is still the right man for the job. "The coach is staying put," Kuntz said. "We all know the nature of this business, but the team put everything into the game and were unfortunate not to be rewarded with three points." Kaiserslautern have now not won in 14 games and Kuntz admits his patience cannot last forever. "We have to take things on a week-by-week basis," he told reporters at the Betzenberg stadium. "I know that I am running out of arguments against it [sacking Kurz], but it is not like everybody here is saying that the coach must go and I am the only one standing by him. "We all share the opinion that we can stay up with Marco Kurz. I would prefer it now if we get the points against Stuttgart." Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath also had words of praise for Kaiserslautern. "I got the impression that they were playing for their coach, which made it incredibly difficult for us," he said.
