Liverpool - Arabstoday

Liverpool Ladies have unveiled their first signing ahead of the 2012 Women's Super League season.New Zealand international goalkeeper, Aroon Clansey, has joined the Reds from Australian side Canberra United. Aroon, 25, was part of the Canberra team that finished unbeaten and top of the W-League in the 2011-2012 season, and has been capped five times by New Zealand. Aroon is joining the team she has supported since childhood as her father Steve is originally from Liverpool, and will compete in the second season of the WSL which begins in April. Liverpool Ladies' first competitive game of 2012 takes place in March in the sixth round of the FA Cup. Aroon said: "I have always been a Liverpool fan so to get the chance to play for the ladies' team is a huge honour. "I've been aware of the WSL reading about it in New Zealand, and the standard of football on offer and it's a really exciting time to be a part of women's football here in England. "I can't wait to get into training and playing our first matches - and of course, wearing the Liverpool shirt." Robbie Johnson, Liverpool Ladies manager said: "Aroon is a really talented goalkeeper, she's got a great attitude and it's good signing for us.  We've identified the areas we need to strengthen and are preparing for a good WSL season. "The fact that players from the other side of the globe are wanting to come and play for us in England really highlights the quality of the WSL and the worldwide appeal of Liverpool. "We're in advanced talks with other players and should be in a position to announce further signings in the next few weeks."
