Dubai - Arabstoday

With news emerging from Pakistan that Dav Whatmore is set to take charge as the new national cricket team head coach, the current incumbent Mohsin Khan has said he will not be disappointed if he is replaced. "There is nothing to be disappointed about. As an ex-cricketer, I have said that I am ready to do whatever service my cricket board wants me to do. It is my duty being an ex-Test cricketer that whenever my services are required for my country's cricket I should be there without any hesitation. I was there and I will be there whenever my cricket board requires it." 'Not qualified' Pakistan Cricket Board chief Zaka Ashraf had even stated that Khan — who has been head coach on a stand-in basis since Waqar Younus quit last year — is not a qualified coach. I was there and I will be there whenever my cricket board requires it." When asked whether he intends to join any coaching courses in the future to qualify as a coach, Khan said: "No, not at all. My experience as a cricketer who has played for his country for nine to ten years and played close to 100 matches is there, I don't think I need any qualifications." Spirited defence Asked about whether he would have liked to remain coach, Khan replied: "Look, I have been doing this for the last four months. I think the team has done well except in the last three one-day matches and I feel very disappointed about it because we haven't played to our potential. If my cricket board wants me to do the job, I will definitely do it." Khan also sought to put at rest Misbah-ul-Haq's claim that the team was suffering from homesickness. "Probably my captain said that because even our home series are actually away series. Pakistan cricketers now come home for just a week or ten days and then go away again for a long tour," he said. "I must appreciate the UAE cricket administration for all the facilities and comforts they have provided to us. However, homesickness is such that nothing can take it away. You can live in a palace but even if you live in a small two-bedroom, your house is always your home." One-day form When asked what has gone wrong with his team in the one-day series, Khan said: "I will not take anything away from England because they played some tremendous cricket and we did not come up to expectations. We should have played much better cricket. We have been giving 20 to 25 runs away while fielding and England are saving them. So it easily comes to a difference of 40 to 50 runs. That is a big difference. Especially in one-day cricket where containment is very important." Khan is also worried about a fever that has hit some of his players. "Khan is not yet one hundred per cent fit. We have about six to seven players who are not well and so we gave them complete rest yesterday [Sunday]. The boys rested pretty well, took their medicine and they are better today [Monday]. Flu, cold and sore throat do not go in a day because it takes its own time. However, they are better than before."
