A Murray Goodwin and Martyn Ball-inspired Lord's Taverners triumphed over a Fly Emirates XI yesterday after a closely-fought match that went down to the last over. Their victory at the Sevens meant the two-match series ended in a draw after Emirates won the opening fixture on Friday. The Taverners, a team of cricketing greats dedicated to giving disadvantaged children a sporting chance, won by four wickets with three balls to spare, with former Zimbabwe Test star Goodwin leading the way with 31 runs and Ball taking four wickets. Neal Radford (27) and Vince Wells (23 not out) also made telling contributions as the Taverners posted 151 for six in 34.3 overs. Emirates were all out for 148 in 33.2 overs, with Usman Mustaq (26) and Khuram Khan (20) their star performers.
