Tessa Worley of France won the women's World Cup giant slalom here on Saturday ahead of Italy's Federica Brignone and Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany. It was Worley's sixth World Cup race win and the first of this season, coming on the notoriously steep and technical men's giant slalom race course in Kranjska Gora hosting this race because it could not be held as planned in Maribel due to lack of snow. "It wasn't easy, but I like these conditions," said Worley, the world champion bronze medallist. "I'm very happy to be on top again." Elisabeth Goergl of Austria was fastest in the first leg, but she failed to complete the second run, catching an edge and crashing. The 22-year-old Worley, born to a French mother and Australian father and partly raised in New Zealand, clocked a combined time of 2min 03.02sec over the two runs, having finished second behind Goergl on the first run. Brigone was at 0.56sec with Rebensburg, the Olympic champion, a further 0.44sec adrift. American Lindsey Vonn finished fourth, just three-hundredths off the podium, to consolidate her push for a fourth World Cup overall title. Vonn now stands atop the standings on 934 points, with Slovenian Tina Maze in second (638) and Austrian Marlies Schild in third (548). Competition continues on Sunday with a slalom.
