The Ministry of Interior announced Sunday that a leading element of Beit al Maqdes organization was killed in a shootout with police forces in Al Arish city.
The shootout left one policeman killed and others wounded, according to the Interior Ministry statement.
The statement also said security forces received information that an operation commander of Beit al Maqdes group was involved in carrying out several attacks against armed forces and the police. He was also involved in attacking a security checkpoint in front of a public hospital in Al Arish which claimed the life of one security element.
The element was identified as "Hamdan Suleiman Salem" and he is a resident of Al Arish city.
Working upon a tip-off, security forces raided his house after issuing a permit from the supreme security prosecution.
He exchanged fire with the anti-terrorism troops and was killed during the operation. The police found an automatic rifle and ammunition in his possession.
All security measures have been taken and a probe was launched.
