Border guards discovered and destroyed 12 openings to new tunnels on the border line northern Sinai in the period between December 18 and 28, said military spokesman Col. Tamer el Refaie Monday.

Large quantities of drugs and carcinogenic cigarettes were also seized, Refaie added.

A 4x4 car laden with 360 kilograms of the essence of Hashish, two rifles and a sniper rifle was seized in the western military zone, he said. 

In Salloum, 74 persons of different nationalities were arrested during an illegal migration attempt, the spokesman added. 

Twenty-six Syrians were also arrested in the vicinity of the southern military zone during an illegal migration attempt, Refaie said.
