A police officer was announced dead on Saturday of wounds sustained during a campaign on a terrorist hotbed in the Maryoutia district of Giza.

A security official told MENA that Major Ahmed Ibrahim el Refay received a fatal injury while breaking into a suspect flat in the area.

The Interior Minister Magdi Abdel Ghaffar mourned the death of the officer and expressed condolences to his family, the official said.

Eight people were killed including five policemen, while 15 others were injured due to the strong explosion that took place at the moment the squad managed to enter the place.
