Two Omanis were recognised for their efforts in rescuing a whale and a turtle on Oman beaches, officials announced.
Salma bint Naseeb Al Farsi from Sur and Sultan bin Ahmed Al Hassani from Muscat were felicitated by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs for rescuing a whale and a turtle in Sur Beach in South Al Sharqiyya, and Yankit Beach in Muscat, respectively. The individuals collaborated with environmental experts in the area for the two feats.
Officials of the General Directorate for Nature Conservation praised the efforts of the citizens, and urged them to spread the culture of wildlife preservation.
"Everyone can contribute positively to the reduction of the dangers facing the marine environment, in order to achieve ecological balance and preserve the Omani environment from degradation and harm to the species of wildlife and their habitats," officials said.
"This recognition perpetuates the Ministry's efforts in environmental awareness, so that society can contribute to Oman's environment protection, and spread environmental knowledge to people of various ages, and scientific and professional segments of society," they added.
