A 5.9-magnitude earthquake jolted the sea area off Taiwan's east coast at 0:38 a.m. Saturday Beijing Time, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC). The epicenter was monitored at 24.0 degrees north latitude and 122.7 degrees east longitude, in the sea area off Hualien, with a depth of 40 km, the CENC said in a statement. However, Taiwan's meteorological authorities measured the quake at 6.2-magnitude and the epicenter was monitored at 23.88 degrees north latitude and 122.69 degrees east longitude with a depth of 58.6 kilometers. A Xinhua correspondent in Taipei said the quake was felt in city. There has been no immediate report of losses. A 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit Nantou County in Taiwan on June 2, leaving four people dead.
