An undersea quake measuring at 5.6 magnitude jolted eastern parts of Indonesia earlier Friday and was not potential for tsunami, the meteorology and geophysics agency said here.
The quake jolted at 06:15 a.m. Jakarta time Friday (23:15 GMT Thursday) with epicenter at 215 km northeast Maluku Barat Daya and depth at 134 km under sea bed, Syamsulhadi, official of the agency said.
"The shakes of the quake were weak as the epicenter was located in deep sea," Syamsulhadi told Xinhua by phone.
Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake-hit zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
