Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bashir Atalay declared that 5 persons passed away in the aftermath of a 5.6 magnitude earthquake which hit Van governorate in Turkey yesterday (Wednesday Nov. 9, 2011) and added that other persons were still trapped under the debris.
The tremor destroyed 21 buildings including two hotels and caused widespread panicking among local population as ambulance vehicles and rescue teams rushed to the scene to inspect the rubble.
