The water level subsides on the Amur River in the Far Eastern Khabarovsk region hit by floods. As of Friday morning, it was 418 centimeters near Khabarovskseven lowering by seven centimeters within the period of 24 hours. It stood at 642 centimeters (minus 11 centimeters) near Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The water level increased by four centimeters, reaching 256 centimeters, at Nikolayevsk-on-Amur located below, the press service of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations’ Khabarovsk region department reported. Forty one settlements in five municipalities remained partially flooded in the region on Thursday. About 2,000 residential buildings that are home to more than 15,000 people are still partially flooded in 36 of them. A total of 7,314 people, including 1,426 children, were evacuated from flooded zones. Some of them stay in long-term occupancy centers and others stay at their relatives. Temporary dikes are dismantled, and water is being pumped out. Meanwhile, repair teams are restoring infrastructure and socially important facilities in the areas where water has retreated. They also help elderly and disabled people to dispose of garbage. Work is done to disinfect the territories where water has retreated. Brigades from the local department of the Rospotrebnadzor consumer rights watchdog control the quality of drinking water. All in all, 9,453 people assisted by 1,735 units of hardware take part in work to cope with the aftermath of floods in the Khabarovsk region.
