Armenian capital ready to assist flood-stricken Tbilisi

Yerevan is ready to assist Georgia and provide temporary shelter to the Tbilisi Zoo's animals in the Yerevan Zoo after deadly rains hit the Georgian capital, Yerevan's mayor said Tuesday.

"Four experts of the Yerevan Zoo left for Georgia to provide necessary assistance to Georgian colleagues to help tackle the aftermath of the flooding, caused by heavy rains in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi," Taron Margaryan said.

The mayor of the Armenian capital also sent a message of condolence to the city of Tbilisi on behalf of Yerevan's residents and himself, expressing his sincere condolence to the flooding victims' relatives.

A sudden rainstorm hit Tbilisi at midnight Saturday, leaving at least 14 people dead, 38 injured and dozens missing.

The flooding, caused by heavy rains, also damaged the Tbilisi Zoo and left many animals dead or missing.
