Australian emergency workers brace for another big storm

Emergency workers in Sydney and surrounding areas were fighting around the clock to clean up storm damage and rescue people stranded by floods before another one arrives at the weekend.

This week's three-day storm battered sections of New South Wales, with 130,000 homes and business still without power and a community of 2,000 still trapped by floods.

Food and water was being ferried to them and tens of thousands of trees still needed to be cleared from roads and homes.

But the emergency teams had been warned by the Bureau Of Meteorology that another storm with high winds was moving up from Antarctica and was due to arrive in the affected areas on Sunday.

However, it was not expected to be as intense or long lasting as this week's storm.

The final cost of the storm had not been calculated, but was constantly rising as workers moved into new damaged areas.
