Anis Al-Amri, the main suspect of the truck attack on a Christmas market in Berlin, which killed 12 people and injured many others earlier this week, was shot dead in Milan, the Italian police confirmed today.
Al-Amri, 24, fired at the Italian police at about 03:00 p.m. local time, said Interior Minister Marco Minniti in a press conference, adding that the shootout resulted in the injury a policeman who asked him to show his ID at a train station in Sesto San Giovanni, Milan.
The minister stressed that identity checks established "without a shadow of doubt" that the dead man was Amri.
Minniti added that Al-Amir arrived in Sesto San Giovanni by train from France, noting that the Italian authorities were looking for accomplices.
