A ban on individuals or organizations from issuing unofficial weather forecasts, to prevent public panic, came into force in China Friday.
Violators face fines of up to 50,000 yuan (8,075 dollars) for releasing unofficial alerts or spreading false information, according to the regulations announced online by China Meteorological Administration on March 13.
Offenders face criminal charges if announcements result in casualties or property losses, dpa reported.
