Hundreds of homes in the Indonesian areas of Haurpanggung village in Tarogong Kidul subdistrict, West Java Province, were inundated on Tuesday night following the overflowing of the Cimanuk river. Tarogong Kidul subdistrict chief Aji Sukarmaji said that the flood was caused by the overflowing of the Cimanuk river after heavy rain, according to Indonesia's (ANTARA) News Agency. The deluge which started late Tuesday invaded Kampung Cimacan and Kampung Sukarya which together were inhabited by 280 families. The flood waters reached a height of 50 cm and the affected people immediately acted to save their furniture and other valuable possessions by moving them to higher ground. "Until now residents are still busy saving their belongings by moving them to elevated spaces," Aji said. Local authorities came to the affected kampongs to survey the situation. A number of police and military personnel had arrived to give a helping hand to the flood victims.
