Hurricane Raymond, well off the coast of Baja California, appears to be near its peak strength in the Pacific Ocean, forecasters in Miami said. In its 8 p.m. PDT Sunday update, the National Hurricane Center said Raymond was 690 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, and was moving north-northwest at 9 mph. The storm was expected to turn toward the north and lose forward speed Monday, before turning north-northeast Tuesday. Raymond was expected to weaken Monday with more rapid weakening expected Tuesday. No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.
