Experts of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) on Tuesday in Mersin city in south of Turkey as World Bullettin agency reports. According to statement released from the Akkuyu NPP, IAEA experts visited the Akkuyu NPP, Turkey's first nuclear station where workshops of hydrometeorological, ecological, geological and seismotectonics researches will take place in Gulnar district of Mersin city. Later on, they headed to the weather centre and its towers. After their visit they held a meeting and IAEA experts stated that they found the organization of field works being held at the Akkuyu NPP technically successful. The Akkuyu nuclear power plant which will be Turkey's first nuclear power station will be based at Mersin province on the Mediterranean coast. An agreement on this was signed between the governments of Russia and Turkey in Ankara on May 12, 2010. The Akkuyu NPP will have four power units of 1200 MW each. After construction, Akkuyu NPP is expected to produce about 35 billion kilowatt-hours per year. Akkuyu NPP is a serial project of the NPP-2006 nuclear power plant based on Novovoronezh NPP-2 (Russia, Voronezh Oblast). The life cycle of Akkuyu NPP is 60 years.
