U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Sigrid Kaag and European Union Ambassador to Lebanon Christina Lassen toured on Wednesday the demining operation zone in the district of Nabatieh, where they visited the Regional Center affiliated to the Lebanese Center for Mine Action at Issam Chamoun Barracks in Upper Nabatieh.
Head of the Lebanese Center for Mine Action, Brigadier General Ziad Nasr gave a detailed presentation on the demining operations, shedding light on the most contaminated geographical spots with suspicious objects, especially in the wake of the Israeli assault in 2006.
"So far, we cleared 76 percent of lands contaminated with mines and cluster bombs, and we are working on the implementation of a strategy since the year 2011 till 2020," he said
