A group of students from the political science department of Kuwait university are currently on a four-day visit to Belgium to get a first-hand knowledge of how the European Union functions and get acquainted with the educational system in Belgium. Kuwait's ambassador to Belgium and the EU Dharar Abdulrazzaq Razzooqi welcomed the group Wednesday afternoon at the embassy and related to them his experiences and lessons learnt from his long diplomatic service. He also underlined the importance of education and knowledge for the advancement and progress of nations. Dr.Hasan Abdullah Johar, chair of the political science department, who is heading the students delegation told the Kuwait news agency, KUNA, that this trip is part of their educational, cultural and social activities. "They were interested to come to the EU to pay a direct and field visit to this great institution and to learn about regional and international collaboration," he noted. The Kuwaiti students also visited academic institutions in Belgium such as the Free University of Brussels (ULB), he said and added that they are aiming to sign academic agreements with these Belgian institution on students and teachers exchange, and on exchange of academic papers. The group visited the European Parliament, the EU Council and European Commission to learn how these institutions work. "We invest on the students and for sure they would be our new ambassadors, politicians, members of parliament, ministers in the future," he commented. The 29-member delegation includes male and female students. Some of the students are accompanied by their parents which shows a social dimension of the visit, said Johar. The students and Johar warmly thanked ambassador Razooqi, second secretary Dr. Mubarak Al-Hajri and other Kuwait embassy staff for their support and help in organising the visit and to make their stay pleasant and comfortable in Belgium.
