A monster storm with the potential for hurricane-like wind is brewing in the Atlantic and forecasters said it is due to hit southern England and Wales Monday. The storm could bring wind gusts of 80 mph or more, especially in coastal areas. Forecasters said the storm could be at its worst during Monday morning's rush hour. "The storm is coming through at the worst possible time; from around midnight to midday on Monday -- which takes in the rush hour when people are trying to get to work," Sky News forecaster Jo Wheeler said. Britain's national weather service, the Met Office, said workers are out in advance trying to prevent flooding where possible by clearing blocked culverts and removing debris from streams and creeks. "This is a developing situation and we'd advise people to stay up to date with our forecasts and warnings over the weekend, and be prepared to change their plans if necessary," said Steve Willington, chief forecaster at the Met Office. "We'll continue to work closely with authorities and emergency services to ensure they are aware of the expected conditions." In addition to the potential flooding, winds are expected to be strong enough to down trees and power lines, the BBC said. With trees still in full leaf and the ground already moist, the chance for downed limbs and entire trees is increased.
