Last night forecasters warned that violent storms and sustained, driving rain will bring a risk of structural damage and flash floods. If that’s not bad enough, they also warned of a big freeze – severe frosts that could hit as early as November, heralding “another cold winter”. Jonathan Powell, senior forecaster for Positive Weather Solutions, said: “We will have a cold and frosty autumn and it looks like it’s going to be another cold winter. All the signs are there.”And during the rest of September, analysts said, conditions would be right to bring a risk of tornadoes across the whole of the country, with the south of the Midlands particularly prone.Mr Powell said potentially devastating gusts of up to 65mph looked set to hammer the country over the next two weeks. “Britain is set for a real battering,” he said. “It is looking like a sliding scale of misery with torrential rain and violent storms, some of which could be near hurricane force.” According to Mr Powell a front of warm air from the Continent is set to meet cold air, which will bring the risk of tornadoes.
