An earthquake of 6.7 magnitude was registered on Thursday night near the southern coast of Chile, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported. The quake’s epicenter was in the Pacific Ocean some 400 km (248 miles) from Chile at a depth of 10 km (6 miles). There have been no reports of victims or damage. In February last year a powerful quake measuring 8.8 points struck Chile. The earthquake and an ensuing tsunami killed about 500 people and left some 2 million homeless. The country has since seen several dozen strong tremors.
