Magnitude quake hits Indonesia’s Lampung province

A 6.2-magnitude undersea earthquake struck southwest of Krui area in Indonesia’s Lampung Province on Tuesday, according to Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The quake was centered 140 km southwest of Krui or 325 km southwest of Jakarta at a depth of 10 km, the agency said. It said the quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami. There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage caused by Tuesday`s quake, the Indonesian news agency (Antara) reported. Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone so called the “Pacific Ring of Fire,” where two continental plates meet and cause frequent seismic and volcanic movements.
