Following directives from His Majesty the King's Personal Representative and the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE)'s President Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the theme of the National Environment Day 2013, to be marked on February 4th, will be: "Youth and Environment", given the crucial and important role youths can play in protecting environment. Youngsters and youths have always shown great interest in promoting awareness on environment, which led to the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, held in Stockholm in 1972, and other campaigns to ensure a safe and sustainable human environment. They were also the main driving force behind the launch of the "Green Consumption" Movement, as children always told their mothers to choose green products. On the occasion, the SCE called upon Bahrain youths to show more interest in environment issues and do their utmost to protect the environment, an essential part in human life. SCE will hold many functions to mark the National Environment Day, including youth camps and forums.
